Summer is supposed to be a season of fun, relaxation, and sunshine. No one wants the threat of mold or water damage hanging over their head when they are supposed to be lounging at the pool. Here are a few tips on how to not let mold ruin your summer plans.

Where Does Mold Grow?

Mold thrives in a warm and moist environment. So, when you are on a journey of mold prevention, the best place to start are those areas in the home that provide these ideal conditions. To find these areas, watch for condensation. This is common in the bathroom. The condensation is a clear sign that the bathroom is warm and has enough humidity for mold to take up residence.

To avoid mold growth, try setting your air conditioner to a lower temperature to keep things nice and cool. If you have an area that is especially hard to deal with, consider purchasing a dehumidifier to help remove excess moisture.

Act Quickly

To avoid mold growth and stop it from messing up any of your summer plans, you need to act quickly. Mold can spread rapidly and cause health problems, including allergies, headaches, and respiratory issues. When left untreated, the mold can also cause significant damage to the home’s structure, hurting its overall value.

More Summer Mold Tips

Now that you know where to look and how mold grows, let’s take a look at more tips on how to rid your home of mold or prevent it during the more humid summer months.

Clean the Home

Mold can grow on a variety of surfaces within the home, so regularly cleaning these areas will help prevent mold growth and can even help cut down on some of the excess moisture.

Control Humidity

Again, humidity is a huge factor when it comes to mold growth. When you can control the humidity in the home, you can begin to control and prevent mold growth. It doesn’t matter if the moisture is coming from inside the home or outside, you need to reduce the amount of it that lingers inside. Wipe away any excess moisture you see on the walls, look for water leaks, and make sure your fans in the kitchen and bathroom function properly.

Control the Temperature

Next, control the temperature in the home. The ideal temperature for mold to thrive is between 77 and 86 degrees. So, as we previously mentioned, try keeping the temperature inside the home on the cooler side. The low seventies will make it much more difficult for mold to grow. If you plan a summer trip away from the home, keep the temperature on the lower end to combat mold while you are gone.

Call in the Professionals

If you couldn’t get ahead of mold growth and have recently discovered water damage that is adding to the problem, it is time to call in the mold removal professionals. They have the equipment and know-how necessary to ensure the water is thoroughly cleaned and your home is safe and mold-free.
